Krishnapatnam Port, the world-class port on the Indian horizon, wins for the second time in a row, the prestigious 2nd South East CEO Conclave & Awards 2010 in the Non-Major Port category.

The award ceremony was organized by The Exim Shipping Times held in Chennai recently.

Krishnapatnam Port was felicitated in this category based on the parameters of Operational Performance, Infrastructure Development & Customer Satisfaction.

April 12 - It has been a year of setting numerous records for Krishnapatnam Port in only its second year of operations, with cargo throughput of 16.1 million tonnes for the last financial year compared to 8.2 million tonnes in the previous year. The port handled 407 vessels during the year compared to 206 vessels in the previous financial year.

The port has set an achievable target of 35 million tonnes of cargo to be handled for the current financial year.

Krishnapatnam Port, developed by Navayuga Engineering Company Limited on the eastern coast in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, is drawing up plans for setting up a special economic zone on 12,000 acre in its vicinity.

The company has formed a special purpose vehicle Krishnapatnam Infratech Private Limited (KIPL)and secured formal approval for the project last week.

Krishnapatnam Port achieved a record discharge rate of 42,527 MT of coal in 24 hrs for vessel MV Marina berthed on Jan. 24, 2010. A few days prior to that, the port achieved its highest fertilizer discharge rate of 21,200 MT in 24 hrs for vessel MV Ghent Trader on Dec. 26, 2009. Another record was set when port has loaded 5,340 MT of granite within 24 hrs in the vessel MV Yong Sheng on Jan. 15, 2010. All these records were achieved by using the non-mechanized cargo handling system.
