The Vijayawada Railway Division has turned into a gold mine for South Central Railway (SCR) in regard to revenue earning Rs 1,177 crore in during April-December in the financial year of 2009-2010. The Division’s revenue in 2009-10 was 30 per cent more than Rs 824.21 crore in 2008-09. The division has earned Rs 301 crore by ferrying passengers in the current year. In 2008-09, the Division earned Rs 282 crore. Similarly, with transportation of freight, it has earned Rs 727 crore this year as against Rs 497 crore last year.

The DRM said the Division had developed three railway stations -Venkatachalam Road, Nidiguntapalem and Krishnapatnam this year and started operations connecting the Krishnapatnam Port in Nellore district.
