Scientists recommend Seabass fish farming

Scientists of Central Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai have been recommending the aqua farmers to shift to Asian Seabass (Lates Calcarifer) variety of fish farming to ensure sustainable income.

The farmers need to invest anywhere between Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per hector and the revenue returns are in the range of Rs 6 to Rs 7 lakh. Seabass is adoptable for both salt water and fresh water culture.

Dr Arasu said that they are ready to provide seed as well as technical inputs to the farmers while urging them to take up the culture.
