Andhra Pradesh state to promote mini dairies

The state government has decided to provide loans at concessional rates of interest for setting up over 4,000 mini dairies in almost all districts, to increase milk production in the state.

The government is ready to spend nearly Rs 24 crore exclusively on the project by providing interest subsidy of 75 per cent to each beneficiary under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) during 2010-11.

According to officials sources, government will provide financial assistant for setting up a mini dairy unit with a capacity of 6, 10, and 20 milch animals. Farmers experienced in cattle rearing and possessing one or two acres for growing fodder, unemployed rural youth and women members of self-help groups are given top priority to set up dairy units with funding from the RKVY. Those who have obtained consent from bankers for providing loans, can register their names with the nearby veterinary doctor before the scheduled time.
